If you are tired of jugging bookmarks between browsers and machines, Worldmark is for you! Worldmark offers many features developed to simplify your life:
Worldmark is a document based application. That means you can have multiple Worldmark files open at the same time, similar to having multiple documents open in a text editor or a spreadsheet.

The Toolbar contains buttons to help you quickly organize and search your bookmarks:
Clicking on this button opens the Worldmark Inspector. If you keep the Alternate button on your keyboard pressed while clicking the Bookmark Inspector button, the Worldmark Document Info will open instead.
Clicking on this button will insert a new Worldmark Folder just above the current selection. If nothing is selected, the Folder will be inserted at the end of all bookmarks.
If you keep the Alternate button on your keyboard pressed while clicking the New Folder button, a Folder will be inserted as above, but in addition all currently selected bookmarks will be moved into this Folder.
This field allows you to quickly search your bookmarks. See the Searching chapter for more information.
The status line shows how many bookmarks and folders are in this Worldmark Document. While searching, the status line will instead display how many bookmarks match the currently entered search terms
Use the divider to determine how much area of the Worldmark Window is dedicated to the Remarks. You can drag the divider all the way to the bottom of the window to completely hide the Remarks.
The remarks field allows you to enter and view Remarks for the currently selected bookmark. This field can be very helpful for - as the name says - remarks, but especially for searching bookmarks.
By default once you have saved a document and thereby assigned a file name to it, it will automatically save itself a few seconds after any changes were made. To disable this, bring up the Worldmark Document Info and de-select the Autosave Document after changes checkbox.
When you quit Worldmark, the program remembers which Worldmark Files were opened. The next time you start up Worldmark it will automatically open these files.
To add bookmarks into Worldmark a Worldmark File you simply drag them onto a Worldmark File window. These bookmarks can come from many sources. Exampes are:
Some browsers will only allow you to drag individual bookmarks only. Others like Safari will allow you to drag entire bookmark folders onto a Worldmark window.
If you press the Command button on your keyboard while dropping bookmarks onto a Worldmark window, the dragged Bookmark or Bookmarks will be inserted in a new Folder.
For your convenience the name of a folder crated this way is automatically selected and in Edit mode. So you can simply start typing the name for this folder.
Worldmark allows you to organize your bookmarks in Folders. Simply use the New Folder button from the toolbar, or the Worldmark/Edit/New Folder menu entry to add a new folder. The new Worldmark Folder will be inserted just above the current selection. If nothing is selected, the Folder will be inserted at the end of all bookmarks.
If you keep the Alternate button on your keyboard pressed while clicking the New Folder button or if you use the Worldmark/Edit/New Folder for Selection menu entry a Folder will be inserted as above. But in addition all currently selected bookmarks will be moved into this Folder.
When you drag bookmarks onto a closed Folder inside a Worldmark window, the folder will automatically open up, similarly to the bookmark window in Safari or the Mailboxes in Mail.
Dragging bookmarks within Worldmark will typically move the dragged marks. To create a copy, keep the Alternate key depressed while dropping the bookmarks.
Press the up or down arrow on your keyboard to select the previous or next bookmark.
The right or left arrow key will open or close a currently selected Worldmark Folder.
Pressing the Enter key or double-clicking will open the currently selected bookmarks.
Double-clicking a Worldmark folder will open all bookmarks contained in that folder. Would this open more than 10 bookmarks, you will be asked to confirm first.
If you hold the shift key depressed while using the up or down arrow, the selection is expanded up or down.
'Command' plus the up or down arrow key will move a single selection up or down.
The Delete key will delete the currently selected bookmarks. You can use Edit/Undo from the menu to bring back accidentally deleted bookmarks.
To quickly edit the title of a bookmark, select it first by single-clicking. Then click again on the already selected bookmark.
When you drag bookmarks onto a closed Folder inside a Worldmark window, the folder will automatically open up, similarly to the bookmark window in Safari or the Mailboxes in Mail.
Clicking an unselected bookmark will select it.
Clicking on a selected bookmark will let you edit the title.
Shift-clicking a bookmark will select all the bookmarks between the one clicked on the the farthest away selected bookmark.
Command-clicking a bookmark will select it if it is not currently selected, or deselect it if it is selected.
Click and drag an unselected bookmark will drag that mark if you start dragging by moving the mouse sideways, or start a multiple selection if you start dragging by moving the mouse up or down.
Click and drag into a selection will always start to drag the selected bookmarks.
Holding the Command key while dropping bookmarks will insert them into a new folder. The drag cursor will include a small folder symbol to indicate this.
Holding the Alternate key while dropping bookmarks will copy instead of moving them. The drag cursor will include a small plus sign to indicate this.
Clicking on the triangle in front of a Worldmark folder will expand or collapse that folder. Alternate clicking on the triangle will also expand or collapse all Worldmark folders contained inside that folder.
The inspector allows you to:
That last feature is very useful for web sites that only display or work properly in a certain browser. You can set the bookmarks for these sites to always open the sites in that browser.
The menubar icon offers a quick means to file away bookmarks.
The fastest way to bookmark a page is to simply drag the address from the browsers address field to the Menubar Icon. Worldmark will then add that bookmark to the top of the front-most Worldmark window. Further it will mark that bookmark as unsorted by adding a small blue ball to the right of the bookmark. This will remind you later to organize bookmarks added this way. Maving the bookmaks to a different location automatically removes the unsorted marker. You can alsoset or remove the marker via the context menu, or by selecting one or more marks and select Edit/Mark as Sorted or Edit/Mark as Unsorted from the main menu.
You can also organize the bookmark immediately. When you drag a bookmark onto the MenuBar Icon, Worldmark will unhide if it is hidden, and bring all it's windows to front when it is not hidden. If Workdmark is hidden and you want to see all it's windows, simply touch the MenuBar Icon twice.
Once the desired Worldmark window is visible, you can drag the bookmark to the desired location.
You can also double-click the MenuBar Icon. Depending on it's current state Worldmark will unhide, move all windows to front or hide.
You can disable the MenuBar Icon via Worldmark's Preferences.
The context menu is available by control-clicking (or right-clciking for mice with multiple buttons) on a bookmark or a selection of bookmarks. Depending on the context it offers one or more of the following options:
The search field in a Worldmark window toolbar allows you to quickly search your bookmarks. As you type into the Search terms area, the displayed bookmarks will be narrowed to the term or terms you type. In the above example only bookmarks will be displayed that contain the terms apple, os and x (not necessarily next to each other or in that order).
The Worldmark window Status Line will show how many bookmarks were found.
Clicking on the Search settings buttom will display a menu that lets you select if you want to search all text in the bookmarks ('Entire Mark' entry), or if you ant to search only the URL, Title or Remarks of the bookmarks.
To clear the search and display all bookmarks again, click on the Clear search button.
By default this will restore the display to the state it was before the search with regards to selection and which Worldmark folders are expanded.
If you keep the Alternate button on the keyboard pressed as you click the Clear search button, the behavior will be different: upon returning to the standard display Worldmark will now select all found bookmarks and expand all folders they are contained in.
To open the Worldmark Document Info panel either select File/Document Info... from the menu, or click the Inspector button in a Worldmark window while keeping the Alternate button on your keyboard pressed.
When the Autosave Document after changes option is checked, a Worldmark document will automatically be saved after changes were made. While this is an unusual behavior for documents in a document-based application under OS X, it is what most people will expect for bookmarks. For this reason this option is enabled by default.
The Automatically export HTML representation to: option, when checked, will export a HTML document containing all the bookmarks in this document each time a Worldmark document is saved. This is handy for example if you want to automatically publish your bookmarks to your website, so you have access to them from computers anywhere in the world. It is also used for the interaction with LaunchBar, see the chapter Integration with LaunchBar for more information.
Before this can happen you will need to tell Worldmark where to save the HTML file. To do so enter the full path and file name into the text field below the Automatically export HTML representation to: option. You can also click the Choose... button, and select the destination for the appearing save panel.
One of Worldmark's strengths is it's handling of Worldmark documents on removable media, such as an iPod or a USB Flash memory device. When you save a Worldmark document on such a medium, and later eject that medium while it is still opened in Workdmark, Worldmark will:
Now the next time that medium is inserted, Worldmark will automatically re-open it.
Say you own an iPod, which you take to work each day to listen to your music at work. This is also perfect to share bookmarks between home and work! To do that, create a Worldmark document and save it to your iPod. Add any bookmarks you want to share. Now when you eject the iPod, the document will automatically be saved (if needed) and closed. Worldmark remembers it.
Take the iPod to another computer, fire up Worldmark there, and open the document from your iPod. From now on on both computers Worldmark will remember that Worldmark document, and open it whenever the iPod is connected and mounted on either computer.
Everything mentioned above in the section Removable Media works also for .mac or any other mounted volume. Examples are a web site that you can access via webdav, or any other file system you can mount via the Finder's Connect to Server... option in the Finders Go menu.
Integration with LaunchBar is easy:
Now LaunchBar will automatically scan the bookmarks from this Worldmark document each time it is saved. Repeat the above steps for any Worldmark document you want LaunchBar to scan.
You can export any Worldmark document as an HTML. This makes it easy to share your bookmarks with other computers, even if they do not run OS X or use Worldmark. To export, bring the Worldmark document you want to export to the front, and select File/HTML Export... from the Worldmark menu. Select a destination in the appearing Save panel and click Export.
To bring up the Worldmark Preferences panel, select Worldmark/Preferences... from the Worldmark menu:
The Worldmark preferences allow you to disable the Menubar Icon. You can also select a sound to be played when the Menubar Icon accepts a drop.
Worldmark is shareware. Trials are free. If however you continue using Worldmark you are obliged to pay the shareware fee of US$9.95. Start by clicking on the button below. Payment is handled via PayPal, no PayPal account needed and no registration required!
